Level 3 Firearms & Defensive Tactics — Choose Your Student Rate

Complete your in-person Level 3 firearms and defensive tactics training with Go Strapped Firearms Training. Our local classes are offered every Saturday. Your tuition depends on where you completed your online Level 3 course: the classroom course if you're new, or the renewal course if you're renewing.

  • Go Strapped student rate — $150

    $159 at checkout, incl. $9 booking fee

    For students who complete the Go Strapped Firearms Training online Level 3 classroom course or online Level 3 renewal course. We verify your course completion before you participate.

  • Other-provider student rate — $250

    $265 at checkout, incl. $15 booking fee

    For students who complete an eligible online Level 3 classroom or renewal course with another training provider. Bring your classroom completion certificate or other required completion documentation. Outside course records are subject to verification before participation.

Important — select the correct student rate

The $150 rate is reserved for students with verified completion of a Go Strapped Firearms Training online Level 3 course. If you select this rate but your completion record shows another training provider, your tuition will be corrected to $250. The additional $100 tuition balance must be paid before you participate in class. Selecting the lower rate does not establish eligibility for it.

Course completion documentation is required. Paying a price difference does not replace the requirement to complete and verify the online portion.

These rates apply to Go Strapped sessions in North Richland Hills. Partner instructors elsewhere in Texas set their own tuition.

    The State of Texas — not any school — issues the security officer commission.

This is the day the paperwork becomes real skill. Ten hours, one range, a state-approved instructor, and by the end of it you’ve done the thing Texas actually requires: demonstrated — live, in person — that you can handle a firearm safely and proficiently, and picked up defensive tactics you’ll actually use working a post.

Texas made this portion in-person for every armed applicant and every renewing officer, and honestly, we think the state got that one right. You can learn use-of-force law on a laptop; you can’t learn recoil management from a video. Our instructors are career law-enforcement and public-safety professionals who have worked the jobs you’re training for, and the day runs like a good shift: safety brief, fundamentals, drills, tactics, qualification, paperwork — organized, intense in the right places, and zero wasted time.

Both kinds of students book this same course. If you’re going for your first commission, this is the in-person step after your online Level 3 classroom course. If you’re renewing, it’s the required in-person course after your online renewal course, not a quick requal — same range, same standards, and your PSP-31 proficiency certificate when you pass. Either way, your rate depends on who taught your online portion: $150 if it was us, $250 if it was another eligible provider. Either way, you walk off the range knowing exactly which state step comes next, because we send you home with the map.

Not in DFW? The in-person portion has to happen with a DPS-approved instructor affiliated with a licensed training school, so we keep a vetted referral list instead of letting students guess. North Texas and DFW is us — see the dates. For South Texas, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Waco and Killeen, we recommend Go Heeled Firearms Training. For East Texas, we recommend Freedom Defense Training for the in-person portion. If you choose an instructor who is not on that list, it is your responsibility to verify their credentials and that they are affiliated with a licensed DPS training school before you pay.

Included in this course

  • The complete state-required in-person firearms & defensive tactics instruction, taught by a DPS-approved instructor
  • Your live-fire handgun qualification — an actual demonstration of proficiency, the way Texas law requires it
  • Defensive tactics fundamentals you'll actually use on post
  • On successful completion, we complete and sign the self-defense tactics and firearms portions of your certificate: the Level Three Certificate (PSP-30) your state application needs, or for renewals the Firearm Proficiency Certificate (PSP-31). The classroom portion is signed by the school that taught your online course, and we verify it before class
  • Straight guidance on your next steps — MMPI timing, TOPS application, and the 90-day rule

Not part of this purchase

  • The online Level 3 course (classroom course if you're new, renewal course if you're renewing) — it comes first, with Go Strapped or another eligible provider, and ours is purchased separately
  • The MMPI psychological evaluation — schools don't control MMPI providers; we point you to them
  • State application fees, paid to Texas through the TOPS portal

What happens after you finish

You leave with your Level Three Certificate (PSP-30) — for renewals, your Firearm Proficiency Certificate (PSP-31) — with our instructor's self-defense tactics and firearms sign-offs. Then it's state steps: the MMPI evaluation (documented on form PSP-13) if you don't already have one on file, and your application through the TOPS portal with a licensed employer. Timing matters here: your range qualification must be no more than 90 days old when your application is submitted, so we tell every student the same thing — book your range day when you're ready to apply, not months before. DPS — not any school — issues the commission.

Requirements & what you need

  • Before attending, complete the online Level 3 classroom portion through Go Strapped Firearms Training or another eligible training provider. Your completion documentation must be verified before participation. The $150 Go Strapped student rate requires verified completion of our online Level 3 course. Students who completed their online course elsewhere must select the $250 other-provider rate.
  • New students: your Level Three Certificate (PSP-30) with the classroom portion completed and signed by the school that taught your online course
  • Renewal students: an active or renewal-eligible security officer commission, and your Firearm Proficiency Certificate (PSP-31) showing your completed online renewal course. The same rates apply: $150 if you took our online renewal course, $250 if you took it with another provider
  • A valid government-issued photo ID
  • Your handgun and ammunition — or reserve a rental at registration (about $30 including ammo, so you don't need to own a gun to qualify)
  • Eye and ear protection if you have them — tell us at booking if you don't
  • Closed-toe shoes and range-appropriate clothing; your booking confirmation has the full, exact list

Straight answers

Can I attend if I completed my online Level 3 course elsewhere?

Yes. Students with verified, eligible online Level 3 completion documentation from another training provider may register at the $250 other-provider rate. Students who complete Go Strapped Firearms Training's online Level 3 course qualify for our $150 in-person student rate. Both rates cover the same in-person class. Renewing? The same rule applies to your online renewal course: $150 if you took ours, $250 if you took it with another provider.

What if I choose the wrong rate?

We verify online course completion records before participation. If you select the $150 Go Strapped rate but completed your online course with another provider, your tuition will be corrected to $250. You must pay the additional $100 tuition balance before joining the class. If your completion documentation is missing or cannot be verified, contact us before class to resolve it.

Is the online course included in this registration?

No. This registration purchases the in-person Firearms & Defensive Tactics class. Our online Level 3 classroom course is purchased separately for $150. Completing both portions with Go Strapped costs $300 in training tuition, before applicable booking fees and other expenses.

Why can't this part be done online?

Because Texas law says so — the firearms and defensive-tactics portion must be completed in person with an approved instructor, including a live demonstration that you can safely and proficiently use a handgun. A fully online course cannot complete this part.

I don't own a gun. Can I still qualify?

Yes. Reserve a rental handgun during registration — about $30 including ammunition — and we'll have it waiting at the range. Plenty of students qualify with a rental.

How hard is the shooting qualification?

It's a fair test of safe, competent handling — not a SWAT tryout. The day is built so you drill the fundamentals before you qualify, and our instructors coach you through it. Most first-timers pass; nervous beginners are our specialty.

When should I book my range day?

Close to when you'll actually apply. The state requires your range qualification to be no more than 90 days old on the day your application is submitted — so finishing the online course, then booking your range day as you get your paperwork lined up, is the sequence that never backfires. Call us and we'll time it with you.

What if I'm not near Dallas–Fort Worth?

Our in-person sessions run in North Richland Hills. Outside DFW, book this course directly with the vetted partner instructor for your area instead of registering here: Go Heeled Firearms Training for Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Killeen and South Texas, and Freedom Defense Training for East Texas. If you choose an instructor who isn't on that list, verify their credentials and that they are affiliated with a licensed DPS training school before you pay.
