Congratulations — the classroom half of your Texas License to Carry is done. Your certificate in the course is a keepsake for you; you don’t upload it anywhere. Here’s everything left, in order. It takes about five minutes to read, and it’s the five minutes that keeps your application from stalling.
Step 1 — Finish the range portion (if you haven’t already)
Texas requires every online LTC student to complete 1–2 hours of in-person range instruction plus a live shooting demonstration with a Texas Qualified LTC Instructor. No one can do this part online.
Book your LTC Proficiency session →
Bring a valid photo ID, your handgun and at least 50 rounds (or reserve a rental when you book), and eye and ear protection if you have them. Already shot your range portion before the classroom course? Skip to step 2.
Step 2 — We report your training to DPS for you
You will not receive a paper LTC-104 for the online classroom course. Instead, Go Strapped reports your classroom pass to DPS electronically through RSD Connect within five business days of the day you passed. Your range instructor reports the proficiency portion the same way. You don’t have to send DPS anything for your training.
Step 3 — Apply in RSD Connect
DPS now takes License to Carry applications online through RSD Connect.
- Go to rsdconnect.dps.texas.gov and choose License To Carry → Apply for LTC.
- Sign in with Texas by Texas (TxT) — or create a free TxT account if you don’t have one.
- Fill out the application and pay the fee by credit card. The standard fee is $40, and some applicants qualify for a lower fee through a “Special Condition” — the application asks. All DPS fees are non-refundable.
Have these ready before you start:
- Your valid driver license or ID card
- Your current address, contact, and employment information
- Where you’ve lived and worked for the last five years
- Answers to the application’s psychiatric, drug, alcohol, and criminal-history questions
- Proof of a Special Condition, if you’re claiming one
- Proof of citizenship or lawful presence, if you weren’t born in the United States
- A Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express card
Step 4 — Get your fingerprints taken
When you submit your application, DPS emails you a Service Code. Use it to schedule an electronic fingerprint appointment with IdentoGO online or at (888) 467-2080. There are no walk-ins, and you can’t schedule until your application is submitted.
No photo needed: DPS uses the photo on your Texas driver license or ID. If you hold an out-of-state license, DPS also needs its LTC-6 photo form.
Step 5 — Check your status
Sign back in to RSD Connect any time to check your application status. DPS states it makes every effort to issue a license within 60 days of receiving a complete application. DPS — not the school — makes the licensing decision.
