    Register and complete the two hour Level 2 Online Class (Click Here) Submit your application to the Texas Online Private Security website and follow the prompts to submit your training certificate provided in our online class.
  • What is the process for obtaining my Texas Level 3 Security License?
    The Level 3 training is split into two separate sections. Online and In-Person and must be completed IN ORDER Register and complete the Online Level 3 Course (Click Here) Our Level 3 course INCLUDES the Level 2 Certification. Register and complete the required Level 3 ten hour in-person Firearms and Defensive Tactics Course. Complete an MMPI psychological exam from a certified provider and submit your PSP-13 (download form here) *DPS training schools and instructors have no control over MMPI providers or requirements Register and complete your Level 3 application through the Texas Online Private Security website Submit all documentation required via the TOPS portal DPS requires all applications and documentation be submitted within 90 days.
  • How do I register for the 10-hour Level 3 Firearms and Defensive Tactics Course?
    The 10-hour Level 3 Firearms and Defensive Tactics Course must be completed by a licensed Level 3 Instructor who is affiliated with a licensed DPS Training School. Below are the recommended instructors to complete your Level 3 Firearms and Defensive Tactics Course based on your area of Texas. The below instructors are affiliated with Go Strapped Firearms Training and are appropriately vetted. If you are in N. Texas or DFW area click here If you are in S. Texas click here If a student decides to take the course through any other instructor it is the student's responsibility to validate the instructor's credentials and whether or not they are affiliated with a licensed DPS Training School. For a student to attend this Level 3 Security Guard Firearms Course, you must have completed the Go Strapped Firearms Training Level 3 Online Certification Course . An online course taken by another company or instructor will not be accepted. If you took the online course through another company, please get in touch with that company to complete your firearms course or take our course at THIS LINK.
  • How do I obtain my Level 4 PPO License?
    Applicants must have at MINIMUM completed the Level 3 training prior to taking a Level 4 course. Register and take the 2-day in-person PPO course. Register and complete the Level 4 PPO application through TOPS.
  • Do I have to pay for the whole class up front?
    For our Level 3 and 4 Security Training Courses, we have just added our 3rd party financing option for classes using Klarna! Registering through our main website, you have to pay in full (preferred), but we understand this may be hard if you are attempting to start a new career. If you need easy no-interest payment options we have separate checkout links for each course to utilize our Klarna option. You will receive another confirmation with class information. What is Klarna?? Klarna is a "buy now, pay later" service that allows users to split the cost of a purchase into multiple payments. Klarna offers a variety of payment options, including interest-free plans, installment plans, and direct payments. This is a service we have decided to offer to help our clients better afford their training requirements. Please read the training requirements listed in this FAQ page for each license you are training for PRIOR to paying for a course. It is the student's responsibility to understand what is required of them to achieve their DPS Private Security License, and no refunds are available once a licensing course is purchased.
  • How do I renew my Level 3 License?
    Level 3 licenses must be renewed every 2 years. If you are up for renewal, verify your eligibility via the TOPS Website . The training requirements are as follows: Take the Online Level 3 Renewal Course (Click Here) Register and Take the Level 3 10-hour In person Firearms course which is required of all Level 3 guards after Jan 1st 2024 Follow the instructions in your TOPS account and submit your documentation so they can process your renewal.
  • How do I renew my Level 4 license?
    In order to renew your Level 4 license just complete the Level 3 renewal process. Our Level 3 renewal training complies with the required training for both Level 3 and 4 renewals. Make sure you complete your renewal applications in TOPS!
  • Where can I get my MMPI (Psych) exam for Level 3 or 4?
    Below are some references for MMPI's. Go Strapped Firearms Training and DPS has no control and does not vet MMPI providers.   • How long do I have to complete my training and certification?
    The Texas Department of Public Safety requires all issued documents and applications to be completed within 90 days. DPS will not validate any certificate once it is 90 days old.
  • Are rentals available?
    Rental handguns are available at GRITR Range. Prices range around $30 including the ammo.
  • How old do I need to be to obtain my Security Guard License
    For a Level 2 and 3 License you need to be 18 years old minimum. For a Level 4 License, you need to be 21 years old minimum.

  • What is the process for obtaining a Texas License to Carry?
    Complete the following steps to obtain your Texas LTC... Register for an LTC Class. There are two options, Online and In-Person. IN-PERSON Option To register for the In-Person Course CLICK HERE. The In-Person option includes the firearms proficiency. Complete the DPS application and upload your training Online Option To register for the Online Course CLICK HERE. Once you complete the Online course, you must register and take the LTC Safety Class and Proficiency. CLICK HERE to register for the LTC Safety Class and Proficiency Complete the DPS application and upload your training certificates.
  • How old do I need to be to obtain a Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC)?
    You must be 18 years of age to obtain a Texas LTC.
  • What if I am new to shooting?
    We have a class just for you! Our Introduction to Handguns and License to Carry Combo course. Our combo course is our most popular course and walks you through all the fundamentals along with achieving your License To Carry Certified training!
